Wilhelm Popp's "Hungarian Dances" have enjoyed unbroken popularity for years. For some time now, I have been toying with the idea of arranging them for a flute quartet.
This version for 4 flutes, including an alto flute, is not only a transfer of the piano text to flutes. I have taken the liberty of incorporating my own ideas in order to add even more joy to the dances. As usual, I have endeavoured to distribute the musical events evenly among all the voices, although the alto flute naturally has the mostly fixed function of the bass voice.
